Town meetings information:

A preliminary Council Agenda for December 2, 2015  can be viewed/downloaded at the town website. For those who are following the appeal of the variances for the motel, the agenda shows approval of the Findings of Fact. A countdown to the deadline for a possible appeal of the Council's decision begins upon approval of that document.

Council and Commission packets are now available

The Town Council agenda and packet for November 18, 2015 can be viewed/downloaded from the town website's Agenda Center.  A copy of the packet as well as documents pertaining to the appeal of the motel variance are available on Drive in the Council Packets folder.   

The Planning & Zoning Commission agenda and packet for November 17, 2015 is also available.  A copy is also available on Drive in the Planning Commission Packets folder.

Please note that on pp. 6-7 of the P&Z packet there is a schedule for a review, revision, and recommendation process for standardizing/amending public notice requirements for land use matters. 

• Early Neighborhood Notification Ordinance (2006-02) beginning at the December 1, 2015 meeting.  
• The Zoning Ordinance (2014-02 as Amended August 5, 2015) on January 5, 2016;
• The Sign Ordinance (2009-02) on February 2, 2016 and; 
• The Subdivision Ordinance (2014-03 as Amended February 4, 2015) on March 1, 2016. [This will also be the date of the municipal election so expect a change in the schedule for this ordinance.]

Public comment will be allowed during the first of the four steps outlined for each ordinance. 

1.  Staff recommendation/public comment/commission discussion.
2.  Review, discussion, and revision of Staff prepared language/recommendation.
3.  Legal Review
4.  Presentation to the Council for its review/adoption. 

In the news: The Independent's new website

The Independent is locally owned and operated.  It is published weekly and appears on Wednesdays; the new website features options for following posts via RSS and Facebook with a mobile version that is a breeze to navigate.

The price for an email subscription (a PDF version of the paper and ink format) is reasonable, and the cost will be prorated at the time a subscription is purchased. I've found the service for e-subs reliable and convenient.  The e-version includes ads and legal notices in full color with the added benefit of adjustable print size.

You can also purchase a regular mail subscription or pick up a single copy at most area businesses if you prefer the paper and ink version.  For more information call 286-1212.

P&Z preliminary agenda

A preliminary agenda for the November 17, 2015 Planning Commission meeting is now available for viewing/downloading at the town website.  Note the discussion item regarding changes to various ordinances which specify public notification procedures. 

Appeal of the Commission's approval of variances for # 6 and #8 Marietta Court

A copy of the appeals packet (which may not be complete) is now available for reading/downloading at the town website.  The appeal is scheduled to be heard during the November 18, 2015 town council meeting.  Although the town's Zoning Ordinance specifies that variance appeals are to be heard by the Town Council in a "de novo" public hearing, it appears that the town is trying to follow some sort of an abbreviated procedure. 

Map of the proposed infill annexation [UPDATED]

This map will be part of the town's submission to the Governor's Boundary Commission.  It will be accompanied by a list of specific parcels with legal descriptions; that document has not yet been republished.  If you are checking to see if you are part of the infill, please contact the town office. At this time, it appears that the annexation moratorium which is scheduled to be adopted later this month will prevent the annexation from being finalized until after the March 2016 municipal elections.

The Municipal Boundary Commission will hold a hearing on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Edgewood Community Center to consider the Town's request to bring more land inside its boundaries.  A copy of the map showing proposed infill is available at the Town's website. 

Audio from the 11/04/2015 Town Council meeting

The November 4, 2015 meeting was mostly routine with the exception of public comments which begin at approximately 22 minutes. The audio file can be listened to/downloaded from the town website.  The Agenda Center link goes to an index page which has a variety of items listed in no particular order; look for the date and meeting type to find audio for a particular meeting.  At the present time, there are three different index pages; it may be necessary to search through several lists.
